Why Am I Here? Do I Matter?

1 Corinthians 12:12-27

The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit. Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part If the foot says, “I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,” that does not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear says, “I am not part of the body because I am not an eye,” would that make it any less a part of the body? If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear? Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell anything? But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it. How strange a body would be if it had only one part Yes, there are many parts, but only one body. The eye can never say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you.” In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary. And the parts we regard as less honorable are those we clothe with the greatest care. So we carefully protect those parts that should not be seen, while the more honorable parts do not require this special care. So God has put the body together such that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity. This makes for harmony among the members, so that all the members care for each other. If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad. All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.

Main Points:

GOD KNEW YOU BEFORE THE CREATION OF THE WORLD AND HE CHOSE YOU TO BE BORN. HE CHOSE WHAT YOU WOULD LOOK LIKE, HE CHOSE WHAT FAMILY YOU WOULD BE PUT IN, HE CHOSE THE COUNTRY, THE NATIONALITY, AND HE CHOSE THE EXACT DAY AND YEAR YOU WOULD BE BORN. HE PLACED IN YOU A CERTAIN TEMPERAMENT, PERSONALITY, GIFTS, AND STRENGTHS AND CAUSED YOU TO BE ALIVE AT THIS MOMENT IN HISTORY. WHY? HE HAS DESIGNED YOU AND CALLED YOU TO MEET A NEED THAT NOBODY ELSE CAN MEET QUITE LIKE YOU.
Every single body makes a difference and there is only one qualification for someone to have a purpose; if you’re breathing God has a purpose for you. As long as you have breath, somebody needs what you have. Your gifts, your talents, your love, and even your smile.

For example:
A person who has changed the world with an invention – the inventor states that a book he read so deeply touched him and was the driving force that directed and inspired him to create his invention. Now to whom do we owe the debt of gratitude for enriching our lives so significantly with the invention? The inventor? Or the author of the book that the inventor freely admits led him to a life of inventing in the first place. Or was it the high school teacher who convinced the author that he had talent and not to quit school. Or was it the mother of the high school teacher who fostered in her a love to help children. And so on and so on.
Billy Graham has led perhaps millions to the Lord in his life span but who were all the ordinary people, unseen and unheard of people who inspired, mentored, encouraged, challenged or spoke into his life? Maybe a third grade teacher, the neighbour‘s wife, the school bus driver who took him to school everyday. These people didn’t know they were interacting with one of the most beloved Christian evangelists of all time. I believe every soul won will be accredited to their heavenly account as well.

We Christians sometimes tend to think that if we are not talking about Jesus or the Gospel, then everything else really doesn’t matter. That is so far from the truth. WE HAVE ALL QUOTED ST. FRANCIS WHEN HE SAID, PREACH THE GOSPEL AT ALL TIMES, AND IF YOU MUST, USE WORDS. We are so interconnected that our every action has a ripple effect that affects us all. We set in motion a chain reaction of events that bring light or darkness into our lives and the lives of those around us.

What an awesome privilege and yet an immense responsibility. Every day the opportunities are endless FOR GOD TO USE US but we have to be purposefully present because a kind word, an encouragement, a listening ear, even a smile can be powerful. We are so busy living our lives that if we are not careful, people became faceless. The check out girl at the grocery store. The neighbour’s teenage son. The waiter at the restaurant.

God Bless and have a wonderful week.
